Senior Android Developer — POS

About SYSMNT

  • SYSMNT is a technology implementation partner building enterprise systems and digital platforms across the Kingdom. Our work spans retail, hospitality, fuel and energy, and services — sectors where the point of sale is the front line of the business, not an afterthought.
  • We're a lean team where engineers own their work end to end. If you like solving hardware-level problems and seeing them running in real stores rather than shipping features into a backlog, you'll fit here.

The Role

  • You'll own the Android POS layer of our retail platforms: the applications running on merchant terminals, the payment flows behind them, and the peripheral integrations that make them work. This is embedded, hardware-adjacent Android work with real constraints — limited memory, vendor SDKs that disagree with each other, and transactions that cannot silently fail.

Responsibilities

·       POS Application Development

  • ·       Design, build, and maintain Android POS applications for Sunmi, PAX, and similar terminal families
  • ·       Integrate device peripherals: thermal printers, card readers, barcode scanners, cash drawers, customer displays
  • ·       Optimize for embedded environments with constrained memory, storage, and processing
  • ·       Ensure the application behaves correctly across differing SDK versions and hardware revisions

·       Payments & Transaction Processing

  • ·       Implement payment flows against EMV contact and contactless standards
  • ·       Build and maintain transaction messaging over ISO-8583
  • ·       Handle financial data securely and in line with PCI-DSS and SAMA requirements
  • ·       Diagnose and resolve production transaction issues, including settlement and reconciliation mismatches
  • ·       Integrate with mada, local acquirers, and payment gateways

·       Smart Card & NFC Integration

  • ·       Develop integrations for prepaid, loyalty, and fuel cards
  • ·       Work directly with NFC and APDU-level communication
  • ·       Handle MIFARE, DESFire, and CPU card types with secure key management
  • ·       Tune card read performance and reliability under real-world field conditions

·       Offline & Sync Reliability

  • ·       Design offline-first behavior so terminals keep transacting through connectivity loss
  • ·       Build reliable sync and queuing back to backend systems once connectivity returns
  • ·       Guarantee transaction integrity — no duplicates, no lost sales

·       Architecture & Code Quality

  • ·       Design maintainable Android architectures in Kotlin and Java
  • ·       Build reusable abstraction layers that isolate vendor SDK differences behind a common interface
  • ·       Enforce coding standards, secure development practices, and meaningful code review
  • ·       Lead technical design discussions and own solution architecture for the POS layer

·       Collaboration

  • ·       Work with backend, QA, and product teams to deliver complete flows, not just the client side
  • ·       Coordinate with terminal vendors, acquirers, and payment providers on integration and certification
  • ·       Mentor junior developers and raise the technical bar across the team

Requirements

  • ·       Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • ·       3–5 years of Android development experience, with meaningful time on POS or embedded devices
  • ·       Hands-on experience with POS hardware SDKs (Sunmi, PAX, or equivalent)
  • ·       Strong Kotlin and Java proficiency
  • ·       Practical experience with EMV contact and contactless flows
  • ·       Working knowledge of ISO-8583 message construction and parsing
  • ·       NFC and APDU-level card communication experience
  • ·       Familiarity with MIFARE, DESFire, and CPU card types
  • ·       Solid grasp of Android architecture patterns, lifecycle behavior, and performance profiling
  • ·       Comfortable debugging at the hardware boundary — logic analyzers, serial output, vendor logs
  • ·       Good communication in English; Arabic is an advantage

Nice to have

  • ·       Experience with mada certification or working through acquirer certification cycles
  • ·       ZATCA e-invoicing (Fatoora Phase 2) integration experience
  • ·       Arabic RTL interface development, including receipt printing in Arabic
  • ·       Backend familiarity (REST APIs, message queues) for end-to-end ownership
  • ·       Fuel retail, restaurant, or multi-branch retail POS background
  • ·       Experience with device fleet management and remote OTA updates
  • ·       PCI-DSS or secure payment development exposure

What We Offer

  • ·        Ownership of a full product layer rather than isolated tickets
  • ·        Real hardware, real merchants, real transaction volume
  • ·        A small team where your architectural decisions stand
  • ·        Competitive salary, medical insurance, and annual leave
